American Football

America's version of "football" can be traced back to the country of Britain in the mid 1800s, based on the sport of rugby. It was a traditional ball game played at villages and schools in Europe for many centuries before America was settled by Europeans.

The object of the game is to kick the ball through the goal, or run past the end line. Walter Camp, known as the "Father of American Football, added rules to the game to make it different than rugby.

The first "professional" football league was called "American Professional Football Association" and it was formed in 1920. It later became known as the "National Football League (NFL)".

Today, American football is now played in places around the world, in countries such as Mexico, Japan, Europe and Brazil.
